Zvončari, the bell ringers, are the area's traditional carnival figures. The first carnival bells start ringing in the villages of Žejane and Mune on the feast of Epiphany (January 6th), which is followed by the other villages of the area on the feast of Saint Anthony (January 17th).

The Carnival Food Festival was designed with the aim of promoting the entire Matulji area. This is a great opportunity to enjoy many of the region's traditional recipes and drinks, and learn more about the local area, its people and their customs.

The Carnival Bike Tour takes you on a rather undemanding but interesting and funny route across the Matulji area and includes visits to local taverns and restaurants. All participants have to be masked, but the quality of the mask is not crucial – we give awards for both the best and the worst masks!
